Colistin sulphate 600 g
1- Colistin sulfate is that administered orally it almost isn’t absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, so it having a selective and specific activity in the intestinal lumen against enterobacteria.
2- Colistin sulfate are relatively stable at a pH of 2–6, but they become unstable at pH more than 6.
3- Colistin sulfate approximately 60% is excreted as unchanged drug in the urine during the first 24 hr after dosing.
4- Colistin sulfate was of moderate to low acute oral toxicity but was of higher acute toxicity when administered parenterally.

Colistin Mode of action
Colistin binds to LPSs and phospholipids in the outer cell membrane of Gram-negative bacteria. It competitively displaces divalent cations (Ca2+ and Mg2+) from the phosphate groups of membrane lipids, which leads to disruption of the outer cell membrane, leakage of intracellular contents and bacterial death
Used metaphilaxis in case of infections caused by non-invasive E.coli sensitive to Colistin.

Dosage and Administration:
Administered in drinking water dosage of 45-50 mg/kg b.w./day (equivalent to 5-6 mg Colistin sulphate/kg b.w.), for 3-7 days.
Preventive: 0.25 – 0.5 gm / L drinking water/3-5 days
Treatment :0.5-1 gm / L drinking water/3-5 days
Large animals: 45-50 mg/kg b.w./day (equivalent to 5-6 mg
Colistin sulphate/kg b.w.), for 3-7 days.
